contest winners, new feature announcements

Editing and removing poems temporarily on hold

Dear Poets,

Over the last few months, we have been working diligently to build great new features for Lulu Poetry, and it is almost time to show you what we have done! One of the most anticipated features that we are working on is improving online editing of poems and allowing users to delete their own poems. Soon, you will have even greater control of your poetry and how it is presented on the site.

While we are working on this, poem editing and removal have been put on hold for just a few weeks. We appreciate your patience in the mean time, but by the end of the month you will have a better experience editing and removing your poems.

Please continue to post as many new poems to the site as you like, and keep entering the poetry contests. Our prolific community creates hundreds of new poems on Lulu Poetry every day, and we look forward to seeing each one.

Thank you,
Annie

People can’t rate my submitted poems.
What’s happening?

Posted by Katarzyna Boczon-Dobbie on 12 July 2009 @ 3pm

Hi Katarzyna,
After you have submitted a poem, it is not available for rating for 24 hours. After that, everyone should be able to rate your poems.
Thank you,
Annie

I have a problem: I am known on here by 3 names that are very close in the nature of my name. I have poems under the name David Sargent; David A. Sargent & David A Sargent. This is becomming quite confusing. Perhaps you need a login that keeps the personal info in tact instead of relying on the data posted there to create a new name listing. This has been an ongoing problem the way things work as well as allow for a middle initial. Thanks, David

PS
I would like to get all my poems in one place….

Posted by David Sargent on 22 July 2009 @ 4am

Hi David,
We are working to improve the registration and login process, because many poets are running into the same issues you have found. Soon, the login will be based on password, which should solve the problem of having all your poems under one name.
Thank you,
Annie

I would like to inform all that on November 7th, 2008 one of your poets my little sister died. Her name was Krystal Rebecca Griffin, she died in a train/car wreck and is sorely missed!!! I am scouting every place I can to find her poetry…..Thanks to every one who made an aspiring teen writer feel good about herself! Sincerly Brinda Goodwin.

Dear Annie, I hve tried to reach someone at Lulu.poetry. I had ordered a plaque in February but never received it (The charge was reversed by Discover in May). I have submitted two more poems in 2009 which have never been posted. I sent a registered letter in June to the address listed in Yellowpages.com which was returned with “No Forwarding Address” I feel uncomfortable to send any other poems. Please help me. My telephone # is [removed by moderator].

Brinda,
We are all so sorry for your loss. I hope that you are able to find your sister’s poetry and keep her memory.

Hi Lonnie,
Lulu purchased the domain http://www.poetry.com and relaunched the website in April. The previous owners, Watermark Media, I believe have gone out of business, which is why your letter was returned. Lulu Poetry does not accept submissions by mail, but you can upload new poems to the site through the submission form on the homepage. I hope that you will submit some poems online and give Lulu Poetry a try.

Thank you,
Annie

Dear Annie, Thank you for some response from your firm. It is good to know that you accept submissions by internet only. The last two poems were submitted and acknowledged on March 15 & April 18, 2009, but they have never appeared. Why? Where are they?
How do I contact Support? Please give me the email address. The letter I sent in June was to Lulu Poetry at 1 Poetry Plaza, Owings Mills, MD 21117 as listed in Yellowpages.com. with a telephone # that doesn’t work.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hi Lonnie,
The address you listed was for the former owners of http://www.poetry.com, Watermark Media. Lulu Poetry has never been located at that address. If your poems were submitted online, they should have been available to read on the site immediately. For help with your individual account, please email our support team at help@poetry.com.

Thank you,
Annie

hey i’ve been writing poetry on this site for quite some time and was wondering how you guys pick the poem of the day i’m just curious.

Thank you,
shamir

Hi Mozelle,
Editing poems is currently on hold, while we work to improve that feature. After the site update later in August, you should be able to edit poems as often as you like.
Thank you,
Annie

Hi Shamir,
We review the poems uploaded to the site and select the Poems of the Day based on a number of factors. It is helpful for your poem to have correct spelling and grammar and to be appropriate for all ages. We may select the Poem of the Day from previous contest winners, but winning the contest isn’t required.
Thank you,
Annie

Posted by JAMES M OBRIEN on 21 August 2009 @ 12am

Hi James,
Lulu Poetry is not associated in any way with Poetry.com or the International Library of Poetry. Lulu purchased the domain http://www.poetry.com earlier this year, but we are a different company from the previous owners.

It is wonderful that you would like to publish a book of your poems. Lulu.com offers great tools to help you publish, and you can learn more by visiting the site.

Thank you,
Annie

Previously I was able to purchase greeting cards and plaques which featured poetry I’d submitted to poetry.com. Art these products still available from the Lulu Poetry website? Thanks.

Posted by Jackie Lynne Streetman Austin on 27 August 2009 @ 10am

Hi Jackie,
Lulu Poetry does not offer printing of poems on greeting cards or plaques. However, Lulu.com does have some great tools to help you publish, if you would like to make a book of your poems. Visit Lulu.com to learn more!
Thank you,
Annie

So ultimately, what is the proper procedure to retrieve all poems that were sent to poetry.com.
I have been patient and kept aside my opinions. I appreciate lulupoetry for the sincere consideration of this process, but again, how is is possible to retrieve incredibly personal and valuable work?
Thank you for your time.

I have a published poem in “The Colors of Life” but now I am searching for a poem my son, Brandon Carpenter, submitted to poetry.com. It is entitled, “Plagues of Loneliness”. Can you help me? It is important to me.

Posted by Christine Carpenter on 10 September 2009 @ 7pm

I used two different names for 1 poem of Kendall Craig Turnipseed with the other 15 poems I mainly used Kendall C. Turnipseed. total of 16 poems posted on the original Poetry.com website. I cannot remember my user name, could be beautiful song. However, I did see all 16 poems last year around March 2008 from the original poetry.com. I some how found a list of all my poems from a Google search as the page listed as a cache of http;//www.poetry.com/dotnet/P4935454/412/1/display.aspx on line as a snapshot for Text-only verion? My search was for Beautiful Song kendall c turnipseed. The list of poems did include my work as written in full detail for Beautiful Song. The snapshot states it appeared on July 27, 2009 23:20:16 GMT. I look under authors for Lulu Poetry but the name the website search comes back as no name found. Then I try to register with my email as [contact info removed by moderator] and the Lulu website then states this email has already being used. I am the only user of my email and this proves you do have my poems on file. I am 100% certian no else has the exact email on hotmail.com that I do because when stting up any email as a new email address it it is IDENTICAL the Hotmail.com will state that email address is already in use. So please, email me at the above email [contact info removed by moderator] and advise me how can I register and get access to my 16 poems? I also have another hotmail.com email address which could be listed on your website but I doubt it since you do have the other on file. The other email is [contact info removed by moderator], I had an older email address but is no longer active and it was [contact info removed by moderator]. I use to live in Coppell, Texas 75019 but I now live in Wylie, TX. please educate me on how I can gain access to my profile. I hope you or Annie can provide me with instructions on this issue.

Thank you,

Kendall C. Turnipseed

I’m ANGRY! I’ve written and submitted poetry to Poetry.com. NOW, I learn that Poetry.com no longer exists and that Lulu.com has taken the place of Poetry.com NOW, I cannot find my work. I need a personal communication and an answer to where my work can be accessed!!!!! I need the answer NOW!

Posted by Lucinda Schaffner on 5 October 2009 @ 11am

I would appreciate knowing how to gain access to the poetry I wrote, previously posted on Poetry.com. Also, do I need to register with Lulu to access the poems I wrote? (PS – If it’s important, my zip code, I think, was 21045 on Poetry.com’s site.)

Posted by Karen Miller on 7 October 2009 @ 12pm

Hi.
I would also like to gain access to the poems I wrote. I have registered but still don’t have access.

Autumn You have taken brush in hand -see how red Hills
flare-braggart-thy command-A tree of rusty orange
between-mountains of gold pliced evergreen. Stately cedar
rise cathedral tall- The earth is walled from sky to
heaven A wand of indecorous perfection. Mauve Hills
fallow Hemlocks ascend- Heather sprays a misty Hue-
merigolds bleed run burgandy red-Grey shadows curtain
rise and fall- all around inconstancy andpurple sky
This ostentacious crowd stands by-All other seasons
robbed but Why? Springs Tender flower marr-blemish pale
away Lush summers Heady rush slovenly askew-Artist pallet
but never such indiscreet autums final touch-red rose
fade-gold leaves brown Yellows ablaze-The Hills abound
Mountains steeped in wild array-Paint earths cloak You
guady girl-This ignominous comedy-Now hush hush autumn
fradulent and overspent-cold silence from celestial
sphere-colorless Hills shilouette- She over paints and
ill defines With her pale cadaverous tragic wand.
