contest winners, new feature announcements

Site Improvement Update

I know you are all eager to see the work that has gone into Lulu Poetry this summer. The new features that we are planning to release will focus on improving your overall experience with the site:
-Making it easier for readers to find and rate your poems
-Giving you more control over how your poem is presented by allowing you to edit and remove poems online
-Building a home for you in the community through poet profiles and better registration and account information
-Resolving a few current site issues

With over 14 million poems on Lulu Poetry, these updates are no small task and it is taking longer than we originally anticipated. These upgrades are scheduled to go live in mid-August, and I think you will be pleased with the result.

In the mean time, poem editing and removal features are still under development, and so editing and removal of poems on the live site will be kept on hold through mid-August. You are still welcome to submit and rate poems as much as you like, because the contest is going strong and there is no time like the present to share your work with the world.

This is just the first stage of developing Lulu Poetry. We will continue to build great new features, and you will see even more improvement later this year.

Thank you,
Annie

I seem to have a problem being able to see what my poem is rated. When I search for it, it requires that I rate my own poem. (Kind of strange)Then it seems to rate another poem I haven’t read, rather than my own. So, I can’t ever seem to find out how my poem is actually doing?

Posted by Ramon Tucker on 29 July 2009 @ 10am

I do have several other poems displayed at your site for long time ago and there is no way that those poems can be rated, except “A Bight Hope”.

Sincerely,

Lydia Navarro

I would like to inquire why i have been unable to unable to have my poem removed from this site despite trying for about 3 months? Is this to be expected from lulu.com if i try to get a poem removed? This is in reference to case 00282305 though i guess i don’t really expect to get any response like i have not in over 10+ e-mails regarding this issue.

Hi Ramon and Lydia,
It looks like you have encountered a bug on our site and your poems are not available for rating at this time. This is one of the issues I mentioned in my post that we are working to fix, and the problem should be resolved when our site improvements go live mid-August. I am very sorry for the inconvenience. Your poems will, of course, still be eligible for the contest when the issue is resolved.

Thank you,
Annie

Shawn,
I am very sorry that you have had trouble getting your poems removed. As I mentioned in my post, editing and removal of poems is on hold until the site updates go live. However, I will ask our support team to escalate your case.

On the plus side, once the site is updated you will be able to remove your own poems from the site any time you like.

Thank you,
Annie

when is the site going to be updated so that i can remove my poems? i submitted some embarrassing poems a few years ago when i was in middle school and now i can’t delete them. they come up in a google search and say copyright 2009, which is completely wrong, as i definitely wrote them in 2003 or earlier. i want my poems removed immediately. can you please update your site so i can delete them?

Hello,

What happened to the poems previously submitted to poemhunter.com? I read that one could submit as many poems as desired here on lulu…where? I only see the one submission for the contest, once monthly…Where are all of the friends of poemhunter? Will you have a Poetry In Motion feature? Haiku with photos of inspiration? Where are the EBook submissions with poemhunter? How did this all sneak up on me?

Hi Dorothy,
I am not familiar with poemhunter.com. It is not related to Lulu Poetry in any way that I know of.

You really can submit as many poems as you like at Lulu Poetry. Just enter each new poem separately, by using the submission form. Each poem that you submit to Lulu Poetry will be entered in the Daily, Monthly, and Annual contest.

Thank you,
Annie

Hi Annie,

I am just wondering if once the site is completely updated, will I be able to see whether or not my poem is rated, how it’s doing, etc.?

I also suggest you create a way for people to submit questions since it took me about 20 minutes just to find this. The FAQ page was not completely helpful.

Thank you,
Amber

I just want ot express my thoughts….when this site was poetry.com, it was a quiet place I could go to when my day was rough. Now it is way to complicated and hard to navigate through, it’s too busy and now I must leave and find another site to sit down with a cup of coffee and write or read poems by others. Whoever is owner of lulu should seriously rethink things. I only added my email to be able to send this comment….I don’t need a response from any of you.

Posted by Lana on 7 August 2009 @ 11am

Hi Amber,
Thanks for the feedback! After the site update, you should be able to view your poem’s average rating just by looking at the poem’s page. We have also written a much more detailed help section that will be posted with the update, but let me know if there are specific FAQs that you think should be added. We are happy to consider suggestions.

Also, you are always welcome to send questions to our support team at help@poetry.com.

Thanks,
Annie

Hi …
As I mentioned in the post, the update will go live a little later in August. I really am sorry about the delay in being able to delete your poems. After the update, you should be able to delete the poems yourself, but you are also welcome to email our support team at removal-request@poetry.com and they can help remove your poems after the update later this month.

The copyright on all the poems was changed to 2009, when Lulu Poetry launched in April. This was done for technical reasons, and of course does not change the original publishing date of your work.
Thank you,
Annie

Hi Lana,
I understand that a new site can take some getting used to. We are also working to improve Lulu Poetry, as I mentioned in the post, and you should have an easier time searching and browsing for new poems to read after the update later this month. I hope that you will come back and give Lulu Poetry another chance.

Thank you,
Annie

I had many poems on poetry .com and only see 2 listed here on LuLU. I gave permission to move them. The 2 here were published in books already. How can I see my other poems from the site. I have sent many emails and never received an answer.I have copies of course but where are they from the site???

Posted by Brenda on 11 August 2009 @ 12pm

When i click “remove poem”, it says i cannot do so until the end of July…it’s august.

Posted by Savaira on 13 August 2009 @ 11pm

Hi Savaira,
As I mentioned in this post, the site update has been delayed until later in August, and that means editing and removal of poems are still on hold. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

It is strange though that you still see the July message, since the site message should have been updated to indicate August. The one I see on the edit and login pages does say August. I will check with our team to make sure the message has been updated in all the right places.
Thank you,
Annie

I have several poems on this site, I have never been informed what there rating was. I have a publishing company that wants to publish my poems. I wish someone from LuLU poetry would contact me thru email concerning my poety. I have read some of the others , so what makes them better?

Posted by Lori on 21 August 2009 @ 7pm

Annie, you said you are not familiar with poemhunter.com…it was my understanding that lulu purchased poemhunter??? What gives???

Posted by Dorothy Alves-Holmes on 22 August 2009 @ 11am

Hi Dorothy,
No, Lulu did not buy http://www.poemhunter.com. Your post was the first time I had heard of it. Lulu did purchase the domains http://www.poetry.com and http://www.poets.com though.

Mid August has arrived. When will the website become fully functional?

Posted by michael darrell walker on 24 August 2009 @ 12pm

Hi Michael,
The site update has gone live now. I’m sorry that we ran into some delays getting it out.
Thank you,
Annie

Posted by Annie on 28 August 2009 @ 2pm

Hi Lori,
The rating of your poem should be shown to the right of each poem. If you don’t see it, you may need to submit a rating yourself first. Then the average rating for your poem will be shown.

It is hard to say what makes one poem “better” than another. However, for Lulu Poetry’s contest, it is important for winning poems to be rated highly by many users. Be sure to rate all of your favorite poems, and share poems with your friends so that they can rate poems too.
Thank you,
Annie

I have been on here before and had no problems logging in. Now, not only are all my poems except for one gone, I’m having tremendous problems logging in. I use http://www.poetry.com to access the site, login no problem. But as for http://www.lulu.com goes, I can not log in and it says there is no such email address. I had a chance at a 50% discount to get my poems published from a company. Now because of the promblems here in not being able to find my poems, I will lose that chance. Maybe you should reimburse me for the differenct because it sure isn’t my fault. Where are all my poems??????????????

Posted by Letitia Alvarez on 31 August 2009 @ 5pm

Hi Letitia,
Please try this link for your poems. Since we have updated the registration system, you will need to Claim Your Profile and update your registration in order to log in.

Annie,

I also had a handful of poems on the old poetry.com website. I’ve tried searching for poems but I can’t seem to locate them. They were under Tim L Hendrickson.

I believe one was called Journey of a Lifetime and another was Neck and Neck.

I also went to the claim your profile but it didn’t recognize my email address that I used to edit my poem earlier this year. What am I to do? Please help.

Thanks for your help,
Tim

Posted by Tim Hendrickson on 8 September 2009 @ 1am

I am unable to access my old http://www.poetry.com account, when I go to claim your profile I get message “Either the user does not match our records or insufficient information was provided.” the help pages says to enter my physical address I used but that dont work either. I know its right physical address since I get mail from them to my house.

Hi,
It is great you are updating your site. But, for simple poets like us it is difficult to catch all the features. We often used “search for poet” feature giving our names, and go to their poetry. But it is not possible with this new site and I can’t refer the work I have submitted. Pl. help.
Thanks

I was a member of the original Poetry.com site and i went through the steps explained on this site to claim my profile but it is saying that the email address cant be found or that there is not enough information. I had a few poems on there and now i have no way of getting to them. So, if ther is any way you could help me claim my profile…I would greatly appreciate it. I still know my password and everything.

Hello I have over 6 poems published on Poetry.com but I can not remember the email addy that I used, how can I access my poems from this new site? I have poems under the names..Tina L. sanford, Tina L. Stanko, Tina L. Mansha, and Tina L. yasir…I have been married 3 times LOL! Please let me know what to do. Thank You! = )

I’m a little intrigued as to the new updates concerning poetry.com - I did not know that the original owners were no longer in control. But now that I am back, I’m a little unhappy with the way everything is laid out. I had numerous poems placed up with the original site, and now most of them are missing as I had placed it under just my first and last name, not my middle. I’m also a little annoyed with the fact that one cannot search by poet name. It would also assist people in being able to do a more ‘advanced’ search to be able to find exactly what they’re looking for.

Hi, I had over 25 poems on poetry.com, now I can only some of my poems. I want to be able to access all of them. CXan you tell me how I can do this. I did not make copies of all the poems because I was always able to access them on Poetry.com I hope you woill be able to help me. Ypur site is not very user friendly. Please bring back search by poet option. It will help others find my poems faster. I will consider leaving my poetry on this site if I can access all my poetry. Thank you and good luck with your site.

I had poems on the old poetry.com website, but I no longer remember my old login and I can’t search for them without 50000 poems at least popping up. I want to be able to read and find my poems!! If at all possible, could I have them emailed to me?

Posted by Amber Ashing (Christenberry) on 29 September 2009 @ 3am

I wanted to show some friends my poems from poetry.com today, and what do i find but this new site, that wont allow me to search by peoet name, and when i try to put in poem name i come up with about 3000 pages worth of various non related poems.
So i guess my poems that i submitted to your care are as good as gone.

Posted by old poetry.com user on 30 September 2009 @ 3am

Annie, I have been trying to locate my few poems submitted but have not been able to do so. What am I doing wrong? I put my name in the search machine of Lulu which gave me a a number of a 171011 results for dorothy alves holmes poems??? what is this madness?

Posted by Dorothy Alves-Holmes on 1 October 2009 @ 9pm

It seems my poems submitted to you are lost also (6 or 7_) maybe more…oh, I did find one listed over and over again…What’s with that? would love to hear from you

Me & my ex-husband both had poems on the old poetry.com sight. My problem is that I have moved several times and do not remember my physical addresses. I think the “I Can Here the Musics of Angels” poem was either submitted under the name of Tammy Or Tamara McKinnon, “A Different Way” could be under Tamara McKinnon-Ives or Tamara Ives and I have a 3rd one that I can’t remember the name. The Music of Angels was published in Jan. 1995 It was writted during my grandpa’s death and the other 2 were written in the early 2000’s. One of the Poems were submitted under Tamara Lee Ives. When they are found please let me know by linking me to the new lulu poetry site and thank you. Please use the above e-mail, In Music of Angels poem, “Angels” maybe misspelled and maybe in lower case.

I am very upset, I went to the registration and claim link just like all the others in this thread, unable to locate my poems. It doesn’t recognize my eamil address, and I tried [contact info removed by moderator] as well. Those are the only emails I would have registered with. Please put the poems back that I had posted, and add the search by author ( of the poems not some book author )back up

What’s going on with old and new poetry sites? I had over 50 poems with the old website, but now I see only a few. This is a simple website. Why it takes that long? I am working in application development. It does not take that long to move or copy a database from a server to a server. There are also very simple functionalities missing on your website. Are you giving up on the task?

Posted by Naqib Ullah on 16 October 2009 @ 10am

I’m very annoyed that I cannot access my old poems. I typed in my e-mail address and have the same problem as others above. I really would like to access them! Please help!

Posted by Merryn on 24 October 2009 @ 3pm

I am so upset! Please help. Although it sent me a password, the site won’t recognize my username/password. I have poetry up that is very personal and meaningful to me.
